The 2017 vintage at Montrose was characterised by its early nature at all stages in the growth of the vine and including the harvest, which took place entirely within September.
The overall weather conditions were favourable and the exceptional microclimate on the banks of the Gironde, from which Château Montrose benefits, saved its vineyard from the spring frost.
The dry, sunny summer without excessive heat, allowed the grapes to ripen under excellent conditions.
The showers at the start of September served to stimulate the ripening process without affecting the concentration of the Cabernet Sauvignon, which plays a major role this year in making up the blend of the Grand Vin (76% Cabernet Sauvignon – 20% Merlot – 3% Cabernet Franc – 1% Petit Verdot).

“The progressive conversion of our entire vineyard to organic viticulture
is continuing and giving us complete satisfaction, says Hervé Berland (CEO) and now more than 60% of the plots come under this new approach.
Our new vat room, equipped last year with a large number of tanks of small volume (50 to 135 hl), has once again allowed us this year to continue, during vinification, the very precise selection work carried out within the plots in the vineyard. During the first tastings for the blending we could take advantage of 82 different batches of free-run wine, representative of the 26 climats identified at the property. Following the primeur tastings in recent weeks, the 2017 vintage(1) is viewed as representing a great classic year for Château Montrose, and is along the lines of our recent vintages.”.
